How to Rotate a PDF Free — Fix Sideways Pages Instantly
Scanned documents often come out sideways. PDFs created from photos rotate the wrong way. A single landscape page in a portrait document throws off the whole reading experience. Rotating PDF pages should take seconds — and with RightPDFKit, it does.

Rotation options explained
| Option | When to use it |
|---|---|
| 90° clockwise | Page is on its left side — rotate right to fix |
| 90° anticlockwise | Page is on its right side — rotate left to fix |
| 180° | Page is completely upside down |
| Specific pages only | One or two landscape pages in a portrait document |
| All pages | Entire scanned document saved in wrong orientation |
Why PDFs end up in the wrong orientation
- Scanner settings — many flatbed scanners default to landscape. If documents are placed portrait, every page comes out sideways.
- Phone camera PDFs — photos taken holding a phone sideways produce landscape pages when converted to PDF.
- Mixed-orientation originals — a document with both portrait pages and landscape charts or tables often produces a PDF where the landscape pages need rotation.
- Fax documents — faxes frequently arrive in the wrong orientation depending on how the sender fed the paper.
Does rotating a PDF affect the file quality?
No. RightPDFKit rotates pages by updating the page rotation metadata in the PDF file — it doesn't re-render or re-compress the page content. The text, images and fonts on each page are completely unchanged. The file size barely changes either.
Rotating vs re-scanning
If every page of a multi-page scan is sideways, it's almost always faster to rotate in RightPDFKit than to re-scan. Re-scanning risks new issues (skew, missed pages, different brightness). Rotating digitally takes under 10 seconds and is reversible — your original file is unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate just one page in a PDF?
Yes. In the Rotate Pages tool, click individual page thumbnails to select specific pages. Only the selected pages are rotated — all others remain as they are.
Does rotating a PDF change its file size?
No. Rotation updates the page metadata only — it doesn't re-render the page content. File size is effectively unchanged.
Can I rotate a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open rightpdfkit.com in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), tap Rotate Pages, upload your PDF, choose your rotation and download.
Will the rotation be saved permanently?
Yes. When you download the rotated PDF, the new orientation is saved into the file. It will open in the correct orientation in any PDF reader on any device.
