How to Split a PDF Free — Extract Pages Without Uploading

Splitting a PDF should take seconds. The problem is that most tools that do it well — Adobe Acrobat, Smallpdf, iLovePDF — either charge for the feature, cap the file size, or upload your document to their servers before processing it.

RightPDFKit splits any PDF entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.

How to split a PDF — step by step

1

Open RightPDFKit

Go to rightpdfkit.com and click Split PDF in the sidebar. On mobile, tap the menu icon and select Split PDF.

2

Upload your PDF

Drag and drop your PDF onto the dropzone, or click to browse. The file loads directly into your browser — nothing is sent to any server.

3

Choose how to split

Select your split method: by page range (e.g. pages 1–5 and 6–10), every N pages (e.g. split into 2-page chunks), or extract specific pages to pull out individual pages as separate files.

4

Download your files

Click Split PDF and download the resulting files instantly. If splitting into multiple parts, all files are available for download individually. The original is untouched.

💡 Tip: Need to extract just one page? Use Extract Pages instead — it's faster for pulling a single page or a small range without splitting the whole document.

Split vs Extract — which should you use?

Split PDF divides a document into multiple output files — great when you need to break a large document into separate chapters, sections or individual pages.

Extract Pages keeps only the pages you specify and discards everything else — better when you just want pages 3–7 from a 50-page document without creating multiple files.

Both tools are free in RightPDFKit and process locally in your browser.

Why split PDFs locally?

When you upload a PDF to Smallpdf, iLovePDF or Adobe online, a copy of your document sits on their servers while it's processed. For bank statements, legal contracts, medical records or any confidential document — that's a genuine privacy risk, even if the provider deletes files afterwards.

RightPDFKit uses pdf-lib, a WebAssembly library that runs entirely inside your browser tab. The PDF bytes are never transmitted anywhere. You can even go offline after the page has loaded and the tool will still work.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

You need to unlock it first. Use RightPDFKit's Unlock PDF tool to remove the password, then split. Both tools are free and process locally.

Is there a page limit when splitting?

No. RightPDFKit handles PDFs of any length. Very large documents (500+ pages) may take a few extra seconds depending on your device, but there are no enforced limits.

Can I split a PDF into individual pages?

Yes. Select the "Every 1 page" option to split a PDF so each page becomes its own separate file. You can then download each page individually.

Will splitting reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. RightPDFKit copies pages directly from the source without re-rendering or re-compressing. Fonts, images and formatting stay identical to the originals.

Can I split a PDF on iPhone or Android?

Yes. RightPDFKit works in mobile browsers — Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Open rightpdfkit.com, tap Split PDF, and select your file from Files or Downloads.
